Messages from the Universe

Monday is going to be the day I post messages from the universe.  You know, those little things that if you are paying attention the universe tells you - unfortunately most of the time we don't notice.

Like the sign that I've walked past a dozen times during the past week but for some reason today I read it and it slapped me in the face.

Over the weekend I sat and looked at my desk. No big deal, right?  Well I live in a studio apartment in NYC with a boyfriend and a cat. My apartment, if you own a house, is probably the size of your bedroom. My desk is buried, I'm surrounded by books (I love to read) and all I can think about is twisting silver wire around some beads and creating a necklace BUT first I must dump the mail that has piled up, move a few things, donate some books...then today I walk past the sign above, giggled and said to myself - ok, I get it.  Out with the old and in with the new.

What do you need to let go of in order to move forward?  I'd love to know please share a comment.

Public Art

Today we say goodbye to Echo, a sculpture by Jaume Plensa.

During the past few months she has brought a sense of calm to me in Madison Square Park in NYC. At least once a week I would enjoy her beauty while eating my lunch or simply taking a walk through the park to escape the concrete chaos.

I'm in love with public art. Thank you NYC for allowing artist to decorate our landscape in this chaotic city if even for a few months.

What brings you calm while you are surrounded by your chaos?
Have you been moved by any public art recently?

Messages from the Universe and Simple Beauty

I recently participated in an ecourse Do What You Love For Life and to say the least it was life changing. Beth Nicholls is a warm and wonderful host. Her words, thoughts, class activities and her support and feedback was amazing.

Small steps as I move toward my goal of being an artist without a 9-5 job. First, step to post here more often. Two, take more pictures. Three, make more jewelry!!!

Below is a mosiac of photos that took during the ecourse  - challenged to notice what the universe was telling me and to photograph my least favorite color, white, I discovered that I really don't pay attention to the simple things around me as much as I thought...

Do you notice the signs/messages as you walk down the street? What is your least favorite color? Do you notice it? How much of it do you have around you?

Street Art...Lower Manhattan

On a recent trek to lower Manhattan...I bumped into this lovely painting that was done on a make shift wall on Rector Street. I can't see the empty lot behind it but I know that this is much more pleasing to the eye than a plain white wall. Love it!!!

Breaking my Routine

break my routine mosaic, a photo by llmoon1 on Flickr.

As any New Yorker I am often focusing on where I am going. So, today, I chose to look up and down.

I discovered that I long for a rooftop garden and that simple things make me smile.

Renegade Craft Fair

I attended the Renegade Craft Fair over the weekend in Brooklyn, NY and I had a great time. Inspiration all around - the artists were top notch. I fell in love with these lovely silk-screened greeting cards by Barbara Raidl of Kinaloon.

I also enjoyed playing in Erin Albin's booth, Appetite. She creates beautiful textiles and handbags with upcycled leather. I will definitely visit her online store in the future.

I love love love handmade items, supporting artists and upcycled materials!
